From lip-syncs to learning: TikTok’s role in disease awareness
Featured
Absolutely!
Healthcare brands can successfully use TikTok to educate audiences, build trust and drive meaningful engagement, while meeting medical, legal and regulatory requirements.
Healthcare content must do two things well:
Focusing on one without the other rarely delivers meaningful results.
TikTok has become an important platform for healthcare communications, yet very few specialist healthcare agencies have demonstrated how influencer campaigns can be delivered successfully in a regulated environment.
We’ve done exactly that.
Our team combines deep healthcare communications expertise with a strong understanding of how TikTok works, helping brands create campaigns that feel native to the platform while remaining scientifically accurate, medically reviewed and fully compliant.
Whether you’re exploring TikTok for the first time or looking to scale creator-led campaigns, we’ll help you unlock the platform with confidence.
Why TikTok?
They go there with questions, concerns and experiences they want to understand. Increasingly, they’re looking for content that helps them make sense of their health before, after and sometimes instead of speaking to a healthcare professional.
As we explored in our article, From Lip Syncs to Learning: TikTok’s Role in Disease Awareness, the platform has become an increasingly important space for health education and disease awareness. With 83% of users aged under 35, it offers a valuable opportunity to reach audiences who may not engage with traditional healthcare communications.
As health-related content on social media continues to grow, so does the risk of misinformation. Healthcare organisations have a responsibility to create evidence-based, accessible content that helps people find reliable information and make informed decisions about their health, a topic we explore further in our article: Getting real about women’s health… Sorry we’ve been lied to | Curious Health
Healthcare brands have an opportunity to be part of those conversations.
The challenge is making sure that content feels authentic to TikTok while meeting medical, legal and regulatory requirements.
That’s where we come in.
The most effective healthcare campaigns don’t start with regulations. They start with people. Compliance shapes how those stories are told, but it shouldn’t stop brands from telling them.
We believe healthcare brands shouldn’t have to choose between creativity and compliance.
Our team combines healthcare communications expertise with a deep understanding of TikTok to create influencer campaigns that feel authentic, engage audiences and meet the highest regulatory standards.
From creator selection and content development through to campaign delivery and reporting, we help brands unlock TikTok with confidence.
We work closely with trusted healthcare creators to co-create content that reflects their authentic content and why people engage with it, while ensuring every campaign is grounded in evidence and developed within a robust medical, legal and regulatory framework.
When you partner with us you work with a team that understands both healthcare communications and modern digital channels, helping you unlock new opportunities with confidence.
Reach your target audience through credible voices while protecting your brand and maintaining compliance.
Deliver innovative campaigns with the reassurance that medical, legal and regulatory requirements are built into the process.
Increase engagement with authentic, platform-first content that audiences are more likely to watch, trust and share.
Save time by working with one specialist partner who manages everything from creator selection to reporting.
Understand what resonated with your audience, measure impact and use real performance data to inform future campaigns.
A leading global biopharmaceutical company wanted to raise awareness of asthma among younger audiences, using creator-led content to communicate health information in a way that felt relevant, engaging and credible.
To raise awareness of asthma among adolescents, we partnered with carefully selected healthcare creators to deliver educational TikTok content designed to engage younger audiences in an authentic way.
The campaign successfully balanced platform-first creative with rigorous compliance processes, demonstrating that healthcare brands can use TikTok effectively without compromising regulatory standards.
Case study to be published soon.
Whether you’re exploring TikTok or any other social media platform for the first time or looking to scale creator-led campaigns, we’d love to help you understand what’s possible. Let’s talk about it
Yes, they can.
The key is understanding what is, and isn’t, appropriate in a regulated environment.
With the right strategy, creator partnerships and governance, TikTok can be a powerful channel for disease awareness, health education and other unbranded campaigns.
No. In most markets, prescription-only medicines cannot be promoted to the public.
That doesn’t mean TikTok isn’t relevant for healthcare. Many organisations use the platform successfully for disease awareness, public health initiatives and educational campaigns that help people better understand their health.
The campaigns that perform best don’t feel like campaigns at all.
They educate, answer real questions and add value. Disease awareness, public health education, patient support and behaviour change initiatives are all well suited to a platform where people actively seek relatable, easy-to-understand health content.
Compliance should support great communications, not limit them.
Successful campaigns are built with medical, legal and regulatory input from the outset, allowing creators to produce content that is accurate, authentic and appropriate for both the audience and the platform.
Transparency is equally important. Any paid, sponsored or otherwise supported relationship should be clearly disclosed, so audiences understand from the outset when a pharmaceutical or healthcare company has been involved in the content.
With the right governance, approval processes and creator guidance in place, compliance becomes part of the creative process rather than something added at the end.
Choosing the right creator is about much more than follower numbers.
We look for people who have built trust with their communities, create high-quality content and communicate responsibly on relevant topics. We also assess potential risks, review previous content and manage the relationship from initial outreach through to campaign delivery.
Success isn’t defined by views alone.
We look at whether the campaign reached the right audience, encouraged meaningful engagement and supported the objectives that mattered. Alongside performance metrics, we also explore broader indicators such as awareness, sentiment and changes in audience understanding to build a complete picture of impact.
Healthcare conversations don’t stop at the clinic door.
Increasingly, they continue on social platforms like TikTok. Brands that understand that shift have an opportunity to educate, support and build trust in entirely new ways.
